Open ArchiveThe BTB Standard.
Every coach should sound aligned. These are the non-negotiables that shape every practice and every sideline.
Effort
No walking between reps. Sprint to huddles. Finish ground balls. Compete through the whistle.
Accountability
Correct the behavior, then teach the fix. Standards are only real when they are enforced calmly and consistently.
Pace
Short lines, fast transitions, clear segment ownership, and water breaks that teach rather than drift.
Communication
Players must call ball, help, hot, two, release, and reset. Coaches should demand volume and clarity.
Film Loop
Game issues become practice priorities. Practice corrections become film checkpoints the next week.
Safety
Equipment checked, contact controlled, hydration managed, and age-appropriate contact at all times.
Shared Terminology.
Use the same words so players hear one system across teams, coaches, practices, and film sessions.
| Call | Meaning | Coach Usage | Program Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ball | On-ball defender announces matchup. | Demand it on every approach. | Both programs. |
| Help | Adjacent defenders announce support position. | Require early talk before the dodge. | Both programs. |
| Hot | First slide is responsible if the ball carrier wins. | Make the hot defender identify before live reps. | Both programs. |
| Two | Second slide or fill player. | Use in slide/recover drills and film review. | Both programs. |
| Release | Pressure is off, return to matchup or shape. | Call after pass, recovery, or failed dodge. | Both programs. |
| GLE | Goal line extended. | Use to define dodging, feeding, and slide timing. | Both programs. |
| FOGO / Wing | Faceoff unit roles and possession lanes. | Practice ten minutes minimum when faceoffs matter. | Boys specific. |
| Draw / Circle | Draw specialist and circle wing responsibility. | Train specialist placement, wing crash, and possession reads. | Girls specific. |
| Shooting Space | Illegal defensive positioning in the shooting lane. | Teach body position and legal help before contact. | Girls specific. |
| Free Position | Restart after a major foul. | Rehearse options, crash timing, and goalie communication. | Girls specific. |
